How do you take off subtitles on directv

My receiver malfunctioned so I sent it back to DIRECTV and they sent me a new one. The new receiver is great but I can't figure out how to turn on the subtitles. With my old receiver, I would just push the yellow button and the system gave me the option to turn on subtitles. This new one doesn't give me the option at all.
