You should look up the Common Data Set numbers for UCLA for the past few years. It was probably a lot higher in 2020 but this year might be more like last year. Some kids WILL get in, though. Being waitlisted is an acknowledgement that UCLA considers you qualified to attend -- there's just not enough space. I'm currently a 2nd year, I got off the wait-list when applying in 2020. Tbh I didn't expect to get off the wait-list and had basically started enrollment at a different university. I'd say make sure you have other options ready in case the wait-list doesn't work out.
